Summer 2011 Constellation

[ LocSec | Region 3 June | Region 3 July | July Events | Editor | July Calendar ]
[ August Events | Board | August Calendar ]

Hello to All,

It’s currently construction season in Rochester, and the RAM Executive Committee is under temporary reconstruction as well.  Until the regular election next year, I will be acting as LocSec for the group.  Someone will be nominated to backfill my previous position on the board for that interval.  We are also seeking someone to take over the job of newsletter editor during that time.  If you are interested in either of those positions or would like to recommend someone, please contact me.

We wish to extend a sincere thank you to Kristin Naiko and Tim Wright for their service as LocSec and Newsletter editor respectively.   Their efforts were much appreciated, and we look forward to seeing them at future events as time and circumstances permit.

This will be a combined newsletter for the July and August months.  The summer is a busy time for everyone, but we hope that some of the included events will fit comfortably into your schedule.

Enjoy the summer,
Julie Stout,
Rochester Area Mensa Acting LocSec

This is going to be short and sweet. I have been very busy since returning home from Florida with my duties as Registrar for SEMMantics XXXII, the Seminal Event of 2011, Southeast Michigan Mensa’s Regional Gathering. A fabulous event it was. There were attendees from the entire region, as well as from California, Florida, Illinois and our neighbors to the south, Canada. I heard wonderful things about Dayton’s Regional Gathering and was truly sorry to have missed it for the first time in years. If you have never attended a regional gathering, please do so soon and attend one in our region. I’ve attended gatherings across the nation and Region 3’s are the very best! See the list below.

With much gratitude I begin my second term as Regional Vice Chair for the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley Region of American Mensa. I am honored to continue representing Region 3 on Mensa’s Board of Directors. I look forward to the next 2 years. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has served as a local officer, proctored a test, edited a newsletter, contributed to a newsletter, served on any Mensa committee, attended any Mensa function, read any Mensa publication, or done anything else that has supported Mensa. You have made my experience as a Mensan and your RVC wonderful and I thank you for your efforts. Please consider enhancing your Mensa experience by getting involved. In fact, you could be Region 3’s next RVC. As much as I truly love what I have done and am doing, I will not be running for a 3rd term. Do consider serving Mensa in this most awesome way!

I had a great time visiting with Vandalia Mensans in Charleston, West Virginia, at the end of May. I was sorry that those who live in the Morgantown area were not able to join me for lunch. Next year!

As you read this column I hope you are at the Annual Gathering in Portland, Oregon, where I am. I know I’m having an awesome time!

I am hoping to attend the RGs listed below (okay, so the December AMC meeting conflicts with the Cincinnati RG and that makes me not happy, but you go and enjoy!) and to visit those Region 3 local groups who do not have RGs during the coming months. With early deadlines for newsletters, I may not be able to announce my presence in advance, but I will do so by posting to the Yahoo and Facebook sites listed after my salutation. Sometimes I even make an unexpected appearance at a group’s activity.

July 2011 Events

Thursday, July 7 @ 7 PM – First Thirstday at Castaways, 244 Lake Rd., Webster.  Take Bay Rd. north to Lake Rd., make a left on Lake Rd., and Castaways is about ½ mile down on the right (323-2943).  Castaways is one of our favorite summer weather stops with good food and potential for a breathtaking sunset over the lake from their deck.  Bring a sweater or light jacket, as we hope to sit outside, space and weather permitting.
Saturday, July 16 @ 7 PM – Dinner at a Fairport favorite:  Eastside Cafe
303 Macedon Center Rd. (31F) , Fairport, NY 14450  (585)223-7463
Note that Eastside Cafe is on route 31F, not route 31 -- two completely
different roads.  RSVP to Bob Walton by Thursday, 7/14 @ 377-1686 if you plan to attend.
From Fairport four corners (intersection of 31F and 250), take 31F east, make
sharp left at traffic light (Turk Hill Rd/31F), then sharp right at next traffic
light (Macedon Center Rd./31F), go about 0.8 miles.  Eastside cafe is on the
right, the last business on a little strip road to the side.  Turn off of 31F
onto the strip road before you get to Eastside Cafe.
